Today, our SMA students visited the Civic Center for a performance of the Nutcracker! This perfectly snowy day really helped us to feel the spirit of the season! Some kids even caught snowflakes on their way back to the bus! Thank you for inviting us, Syracuse City Ballet! It was an amazing experience!
During Discover Catholic Schools Week, we were able to celebrate our second annual Thanksgiving Feast! Students, teachers, parent volunteers, parish staff, Father Ben, and Father O’Connor came together to thank God for the gift of Catholic schools and most importantly, St Mary’s Academy! We are so grateful to be one big family, and to be able to openly share our faith and our love of God! Thank you to all who contributed!
In continuance of our celebration of Discover Catholic Schools Week, Bishop Lucia came to visit the students of SMA! Bishop served us donuts, showing us the importance of humility in serving others, helped make Christmas bags for our Rescue Mission service project, helping us to serve the hungry, was the host of our Would You Rather game show, where students were asked questions in regards to service, and then led us in a beautiful prayer service. Thank you, Bishop Lucia, for joining us today and for all you do to lead God’s people!
We had a spooktacular good time at our Halloween Dance! Thank you to our Parents Club, our parent and teacher volunteers, and all those that donated treats to make this night frighteningly fun! Students enjoyed face painting, games, sooo much food, a DJ and dancing under our incredibly awesome new gym lights that were set to Halloween colors!
Thank you to our Parents Club for serving us our wonderful pizza, salad and brownie lunch! And thank you to the generous parents that provided this luncheon for us!
Today was a day of service at St Mary’s Academy! Kathleen Jenne from the Rescue Mission came to talk to our students about food insecurity and how we can help make a difference to those that are hungry. All students decorated bags and some also stapled food shopping lists for those collecting their food for their holiday meal and for those buying food for the Turkey Trot Food Drive! Together, we’re living out Scripture: Matthew 25:35!
Today, SMA students attended Mass and then a Blessing of the Pets, in celebration of the Feast of St. Francis! Thank you to Fr. Ben and Deacon Joe Casper for celebrating Mass with us and blessing our animals; real, stuffed and drawn!
Today, Joe Carello from The Band Bus came and gave some of our students an introduction to instruments! Students will have the opportunity to sign up for lessons and begin their love of playing!
Today, students, faculty, families and parishioners celebrated our first school wide Mass of the year. This was our first Mass celebrated by Father O’Connor! He taught us about the three “R’s”; Reverence, Respect and Respond. We are asked to remember to practice these during Masses and while in church. We are so blessed to be able to learn, and celebrate our faith in school!
